In this focus paper on DeepSeek, which emerged from the AI expert group of the IT Klub Mainz & Rheinhessen, the background to DeepSeek, the app and the various DeepSeek models are discussed. With "DeepSeek", the exceptional language model named R1 is primarily referred to, which what published by a Chinese company called "DeepSeek". AI-language models are also referred to as LLMs, which stands for "Large Language Model".
What is possible with a DeepSeek open source model is basically also possible with the powerful open source models of other providers (also from Europe).
With R1, DeepSeek what able to generate a language model that is as good as "ChatGPT". DeepSeek stirred up attention, because their app broke all records in no time due to the quality of R1 and thus received maximum attention.
